Morgan Cain
Financial Advisor
My interest in personal finance started, oddly enough, while serving in the Marine Corps. I married my husband, Skylar, in 2017 and we moved into our first apartment together soon after. This was my first taste of complete independence from my family and from the Marine Corps barracks. I remember receiving a budget worksheet from my platoon sergeant soon after arriving to my unit. I didn’t particularly like this budget, so I created my own budget spreadsheet which better captured the cash flows. I started obsessing over savings and making sure we had enough money saved up for emergencies or planned spending like vehicle repairs, trips, pet costs, and gifts for the holidays. It was when an older friend of mine gave me a ride to get my car fixed, I realized I was doing something right. I told him I needed to grab some of the cash I had stashed for car emergencies. He said that having cash on hand for car emergencies was really good idea, and that he should do something like that.
While serving in the Marine Corps, my military occupational specialty was Data Systems Administrator which meant we established local area networks for internet and phone connections and hosted services such as email and SharePoint. In other words, I worked in IT. I didn’t have a passion for this work, and I wanted to make an impact in my career doing something I truly enjoyed.
After I was promoted, I met with my Junior Marines one on one on a monthly basis. One of the topics we would regularly talk about is finances – mostly to make sure they weren’t racking up a lot of credit card debt or taking out brand new Ford Mustang loans with a 21% interest (which happens more often than you would think). I really enjoyed working with the numbers, learning their goals, and doing my best to lead them by sharing what worked for me and offering them resources. After I saw their progressions and small successes, it was then I knew that I wanted to be a financial advisor and help people fulfill their goals, both personal and financial.
Although I love the Marine Corps and always will, I separated in 2020, and Skylar and I moved to Green Bay with our beagle, Scout. We have a house in the city and a new companion for Scout, another beagle named Frank. When I’m not at work I can be found in my garden, tending to my many houseplants, reading, or working on our many outstanding house projects. Skylar and I also love to travel, camp throughout the state of Wisconsin, and mountain bike.
